The workshop is open to PROPHET fellows/seniors and to any interested students or researchers. There is no registration fee but the number of non-PROPHET participants may be limited in case of a high request.
Deadline for registration and hotel accommodation is January 31st, 2012.
Later registrations may be accepted, subject to hotel availability.

Scientific committee:

Lucio Claudio Andreani (University of Pavia)
Guillaume Huyet (Tyndall Institute, Cork, PROPHET coordinator)
Piotr Kowalczewski (University of Pavia, student’s representative)
Eoin O'Reilly (Tyndall Institute, Cork)
Andrei Vladimirov (WIAS, Berlin)

The second workshop of Marie Curie Initial Training Network PROPHET will be held at the Physics Department “A. Volta”, University of Pavia, Italy. It will deal with theoretical background and modelling methods in photonics related to photonics activities of the network: quantum dot mode-locked laser for communications applications, photovoltaic cells and photonic structures, mid-infrared lasers for gas sensing, optical coherence tomography. The program will include tutorial-like talks, training on communication skills, student’s presentations, and a scientific discussion on PROPHET workpackages.

Draft programme (see top of page for full printable version):

Wednesday 11 April
Tutorial lectures (9.00-15.30):
Rainer A. Leitgeb (Medical University Vienna): Optical Coherence Tomography
Eoin O'Reilly (Tyndall National Institute, Cork): k.p theory in semiconductor nanostructures
Claude Weisbuch (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau): Short tour of 50 years of semiconductor laser physics
Carlo Sirtori (Université Paris Diderot): Quantum cascade lasers: challenges and perspectives

Participant attending the lectures are expected to arrive on Tuesday 10 April. The scientific program of the workshop will terminate in the afternoon of Friday 13 April. Participants are encouraged to stay in Pavia for the weekend in order to enjoy the many cultural and touristic opportunities of the town, including the famous nearby monastery named Certosa di Pavia, and of other cities in northern Italy.
A touristic program (visit to the Certosa di Pavia and city tour) is planned in the morning of Saturday 14 April: please indicate in the registration form if you are interested.
